Adoi!

It was one of the proudest days for me and many others.

I was fully robed, psyched up and prepared to go.

My course was the FIRST to be called of that session, and since there's only 25 of us, our turn came almost immediately after the ceremony was declared open. That also meant I couldn't observe what the others were doing.

Unfortunately for 3 of us, we didn't know that we were supposed to keep hold of a small name card thingy, and carry it all the way up the the stage stairs. We had left it at our seats.

At the last moment, when the pegawai asked, "Mana kad?" I had a #$@%*! moment, turned and bolted back to my seat to get it.

It wasn't easy fighting the masses going in the opposite direction...

Why these things happen to me I just don't know...

My brother managed to get it all on tape and he was nicely laughing the whole time.

Sadly, Suria and Ing Ling didn't get back in time, dunno why the official wouldn't let them through.

All my 'plans' of walking up there calm and composed - yeah right! I was walking across the stage trying to control my own laughter and make sure I didn't do another boo-boo!

Who says convo is boring...

*woot! my first ever uploaded youtube clip*

Food fight

I was looking around at some celebrity blogs, research for tomorrow night's guest, and I speed scrolled through this one. IMHO totally not worth reading, but if you like pictures of a cutesy looking chic, by all means.

Anyway, she's a Singaporean blogger and her entry was about their National Day i think, and the post title was : Traits that make us One Nation, One People, One Singapore.
One of the traits that caught my eye...

*We love food.

Makan makan makan! I guess this is the most endearing trait to me because it's the one I identify with the most :) I love food, especially asian food. I can't live without spice (the hotter the better!), and our local fare. Yummmmmm! Singaporeans also have a funny habit of diligently tracking the whereabouts of their favourite hawkers. We'll queue up 1 hour for that delicious bowl of laksa. We'll even drive from one end of the island to the other just to eat from a "famous" stall. What to do? Our food is THAT good.

(Lets read that last part again shall we?)

What to do? Our food is THAT good.

Ignorance is bliss la.

Earlier this year, I went down to the little red dot. A kind Singaporean chap brought us to try the "the Best Wan-tan-mee in Singapore". Notice the inverted commas. Its not his fault of course, to him it is the best and probably very yummy. All I'll say is that to me their "best" is almost equivalent to the standard wan-tan-mee you can find in ANY coffee shop over here.

Other stuff I tried, also cannot make it. Their mamak food. Their food court food.

Again, I say to any Singaporean that might be reading this,

Ignorance is bliss.

If they only knew what they were missing out on.

Are you sure...

I make it no secret that I do not know if I am cut out to do what I'm doing now.

People often say, "You wont end up doing what you studied."

My job, though somewhat slightly related to what I did in uni, is actually totally different. I chose to do it nonetheless because I thought I'd give it a try, with the hopes that I will learn along the way.

That doesn't mean its easy.

Its only been a month and a half, but its so hard to measure how I'm doing because there really isn't much of a measuring system. Its not like sales, hit target - good, don't hit target - bad.

Very frustrating and discouraging.

Right now, my short long term plan is simple - keep it up for the 6months.

At the end of 6 months though, I'll have important decisions to make, as well as realistically evaluate myself to see if I'm any good at this.

Oh, the joys of being an adult!

Chill

What I wish i could do is order a fantastically satisfying drink...

Relax on the beach without a care in the world

and listen to super chill music like Jason Mraz's I'm yours...

Ahhhh.... Keep dreaming.

The past 3weeks my grandmother from Scotland has been around. She came all the way to attend my convocation. She is 74 years old.

Just now we sent her to KLIA, back to Scotland.

It was a sad moment.

Bye Gran.

*Ring Ring*

.
Its been a while since I've been so nervous-excited to talk to someone.

Today when I made the phone call, with each ring my pulse increased, my throat tightened up and my brain was going haywire.

I don't know why I get anxious when I have to make phone calls, very illogical and dumb since the person doesn't even know who the heck I am.

Today, for about 15minutes or so, I got the chance to talk to

Kenny Sia!

Syiok giler babi!

Obviously I had to control myself and not let any excitement be audible, since it was a work related call.

Getting back to how the whole thing came about- when I found out he was coming on the show, I told my colleague that I read his blog and think he's cool, so she said, "Okay, I'll let you call him then."

Great huh? Yet I put it off for like, two days till it was getting too late. Even then I put it off hour by hour - so stupid right. I'm an idiot. I dunno why I was so nervous. I mean, I do enjoy reading his blog, but I'm not a fan fan.

With much self psyching, I talked myself into making the call and after each ring when there was no answer, I was hoping he wouldn't pick up.
Chicken!

Then I heard it... "Hello?"

"Hello, is this Kenny Sia?"

"Yes, it is..."

And from then on it was alright.

Phew!

Over the phone he confirmed what I have always suspected when reading his blog - he's nice. Obviously I don't know for sure, but he sounded like a decent fellow, and his voice is nothing like I imagined it to be. I shall stop there. *Low Por, shhh...*

Anyhow, if you're sitting at home on a Friday night with nothing to do, turn on the 8tv and catch Latte @ 8, 11pm.

No, its not the Evening News...

Beautiful

There is so much to write about the 4days of convocation that I don't know where to start... Going up, coming down, then deciding to go up again.
The emotional reunions.
Reliving memories.
Saying goodbyes.

For now, since I do not have the time, I'll just share an sms I got from a close friend of mine, with some of my own added visuals:

HE has made all things beautiful in His time,

Your time in USM was beautiful,

The friends made there were beautiful,

The joy there was beautiful;

The pain there was beautiful,

The experience there was beautiful,

And the life ahead of you is BEAUTIFUL!

Congratulations to all my friends that made it through the years at USM.

WE DID IT!

Beijing 2008

.
Last night I rushed back from work, literally ran up my street in order to catch the opening ceremony.

When I told my coworkers I wanted to watch it, they laughed at me.
Oh well, let them laugh. *shrugs*

I made it through the door, missing the first 5mins but the next 4hours was spectacular.

It was a beautiful opening.

It was magical.

For a moment I could forget the troubles of the world, for a moment I ceased to feel sorrow or pain, for a moment I can believe in the hope of One World One Dream.

Bringing in the Olympic flag.

The Olympic torch burning bright.

Let the Games BEGIN!

You may say I'm a dreamer
But I'm not the only one
I hope someday you'll join us
And the world will live as one

Geeks

Since the start of July, I have been faithfully following a tv program, ON TV!

I have been watching...

Ugly Betty season 2. Its on every Tuesday night at 9pm, Astro Channel 711
What to do, no Prison Break, no Heroes, no other stuff that I usually follow. If you plan to ask me out for a drink, you better have the episode on a thumb drive for me or else don't be surprised when I turn you down.

I've not followed any series on the television in ages! I guess I could download it, but its fun to have something to look forward to on Tuesdays, and its alright if I don't watch the whole season in one shot...

Anyone who follows will understand my frustration with the Betty-Henry situation.

Henry is Betty's love interest from season 1 and there's something standing in their way of being together. Quite geram actually, I think they should just go on with their relationship.
Anyways, this is:

An accountant geek(supposedly), but is still somehow attractive nonetheless. He's very sweet but his so-called overly moral rigidity can be annoying and gets on my nerves. His hairdo is a big no-no, but not to worry, it can get all messed up and tousled when they... ride in a convertible. *grin*

However, till now no spectacle 'geek' character has managed to overthrow the number one spot that belongs to:

From Love Actually.

Sigh.

I would so ditch my brother for a few hours to go out with Carl.

I just wish that as their love scene was ending, he yanks the handphone with the bloody annoying ringtone from her, switches it off and tosses it to the side... Wah. Then he'd be so man!

Maybe thats why they didn't film it that way, they knew I would grin beyond my mouths threshold, tak boleh tahan and then spontaneously combust.

Boooofff!
