Thousands caught in jam after bridge closure

Wow... Happeningnya Penang!

PENANG: Thousands of Penangites were caught in a massive evening jam when the Penang Bridge was closed for more than two hours after police received a call that there was a bomb on the bridge.

“A six-man bomb squad was sent to the bridge immediately. They found a 0.3m-long, 10cm-diameter steel pipe,” ACP Azman later told a press conference at the Northern Region marine police base.

The pipe, he said, was found wedged in the divider at the 3.9km point of the bridge on the Butterworth-bound side.

“It was suspected that the steel pipe contained explosives. Not taking any risk, the squad detonated it at 6.45pm at the site,” said ACP Azam.

I danced last night, it was great.

Along Gurney Drive, it was crazy.

My participation was surprising.

Questions that were finally asked were a relief.

Until the police came.

Well, turns out it was a bomb hoax after all. Some people are just too free. Word is it was a comment, some empty chatter, made by someone and another person took it seriously.

Unnecessary trouble. But then if it was not taken seriously and it turned out to be real, somebody's head was definitely going to roll.

On the other hand, if taken seriously and turned out to be a false alarm, somebody's head was definitely going to roll too.

Either way, you'd still be bombarded with questions.

Anyway, just to sidetrack a little. When everyone else was preoccupied with what took place on Penang Bridege on Wednesday, somewhere in Ayer Itam an accident took place.

It was an accident that snatched away a 25-year-old woman's life. She was hit by a factory bus while wheeling her bike. But that wasn't what cost her her life.

It was when the factory bus' wheel went over her head, then was she killed. Her head was crushed.

I never got to report it, partly because everyone was overly concerned about Penang Bridge.

Monkey see, monkey do.

Mel: That is so sad...I can't believe that poor woman got knocked down so horribly. And only 25years old.
