Ipoh Mari

I'm finally visiting Ipoh properly.

The last time i came was when Sam drove down from Penang and we made a quick pit stop in search of his childhood memory - custard. Which was unfortunately sold out.

Anyway, today after missing my 7.45am bus with Li Yee, Jet and Kevin, and having to leave at 9am alone, i arrived around lunch time. I met up with the rest and Kian Mei drove us to Ipoh Old Town, a coffee shop called Thean Chun.

Things we ate :

Beef Noodles. I"m not a fan but the others liked it. The bits of beef were very brutal and 'raw', not that it wasn't cooked, but roughly cut and had fuzzy bits in it. Kevin liked the fuzzy bits so i guess its a thumbs up for people who eat stomach and liver etc.

Popiah - I ordered it and it was ginormous! Longer and fatter than any i've had back home. Taste wise twas good, nothing special but not un-nice.

Chee Cheong Fan - Kevin ordered this and its special cause it has ''the popiah isi rolled up inside''. I liked it very much. Worth ordering.

Finally, Satay Babi - Okay. Honestly, i thought i was eating normal chicken satay. So did the rest except for Jethro but he didn't tell us. Only hours later when i called Kok Choong (who didn't wanna meet me claiming a wedding dinner to attend, but who has wedding dinners on Monday nights!? WS agrees with me.) did he say go try the babi satay and we realized we ate pork. Quite cool wan, the man just plonks the plate there and later counts how many sticks you eat.

I'll fast forward to dinner, getting sleepy.

I dunno where it is but Kev took us to eat seafood - woo hoo! Its called Nam Kew where the front of the coffeeshop has several different stalls and the back the seafood, fried mee stuff.

We were joined by Chris who was journeying down to KL and he made a brave detour to find Kevin's house to meet us. Our dinner was butter fried sotong, lala, balitong, hor fun, fat black noodles and lots and lots of...

...chicken wings! It was the bomb man, i started with one, then another and ordered another. I lost count of how many Chris ate. But it was really, really good!

Simply irrisistable! If it weren't for budget, i'd've probably whacked more.

Before i forget, this pic is for my buddy Samuel, whom i called to gloat and to tell him i was eating his beloved...

custard!
